Concluding 2011′s release of the 6-track ’2am Sessions EP’, up-and-coming musician/producer/composer Ahmed Sirour has added 6 more tracks to the package to release it as a 12-track LP, before moving on to his next project.

The LP version includes a track which features the delightful vocal talents of Cleveland Jones, who you may remember worked with Ahmed for the track ‘Sensitive’ which featured on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers 7 last year.

Firstly, you’ll notice from reading the text just under the heading of this post that I’m not kense! I’ve invaded, for one night only, to give you all a heads up about my man Danny…

It’s been a long time coming but trust me, I’m excited that the Altered Natives is coming back to Birmingham. Round one was in 2008 when I brought him up to the Midlands. If you were there, that night would’ve been etched in your memory forever. Everyone present knew that this artist with a “bagful of dubplates” was going places and he certainly has. From the USA, Canada, Austria, Germany, Italy… (I’ll stop as I could go on for ages) he’s brought his underground sound to the masses.

Crossing genres from House, Techno, Dubstep, Broken Beat and Hip Hop, he is impossible to pigeon hole. He’s also one of the most hilarious men you’ll ever meet – check his YouTube channel and Twitter feed…

‘Rass Out’ appealed to many a scene (with that driving bassline how could you ignore it?). ‘God Made Me’ is a slice of D&B-inspired bruk, while ‘Heavenly Melodies’ is a soulful house favourite. One thing is for certain: this guy has talent. He was rightfully awarded a 10/10 by DJ Magazine for his relentlessly heavy album ‘Tenement Yard Vol 1′, which was a historical first for the magazine!!!

Over the next few weeks you’ll be able to see him spin at a few prestigious events including FabricLive, the Red Bull Music Academy with Martyn, and of course on Sunday 27th May at Rogue Soul for round two. Five copies of his latest album ‘The Guild Of Synchronists’, which is a compilation of tracks from the ‘guild’ of new producers that he’s exposing (At One, El Sudor, Ceramic, Misery Peat, DD Black, Grayz, and my bro Funksta), will be given away at Rogue Soul.

This young [...]]]> OK, OK, I admit I’ve been slacking the last couple of weeks with the blog here… But I’ve been busy! Forgive me, it’ll all be worthwhile in the end. Figured I needed to do a little catch-up on all the music I’ve been listening to the last few weeks, so here goes:

This young scallywag Reapz Da Beatmaker recently got in touch, to share a collection of instrumental tracks he’s been working on. While it’s a little rough round the edges, that’s kinda the appeal of it, and there are some great ideas and tunes in there. A producer to keep an eye out for, for sure. The album is available for free download here.

Our good friends at Two Hungry Ghosts have released Volume 002 of their Frequency Module series of mixes, and if like me you enjoyed the first then you won’t be disappointed! Great selection yet again, blended perfectly into a life-changing mix of music you’ve never heard but will grow to love…
